ASD metal services, the largest independent multi-metal stockholder and distributor in the UK, has announced the appointment of Kaha Avaliani as Chief Executive Officer. 47-year-old Mr Avaliani brings with him widespread experience in the metals business – both internationally and in the UK. For Alcoa, the world’s leading producer of primary aluminium, he held senior positions in Europe working out of Hungary, France and the UK, including spells in the West Midlands. Later he was Group CEO with the Central European Aluminium Company (CEAC) based in London and Moscow. Immediately prior to his new appointment he worked in a management consultancy role for the metals, mining and power generation industries. Born in Georgia and now a British Citizen, Mr Avaliani gained a degree and PhD in mechanical engineering at the Georgia State Technical University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD). With headquarters in Stourton, Leeds and 39 locations throughout the UK, ASD metal services is key member of the Klöckner & Co. group, the largest independent steel and metal distributor by turnover in Europe and North America combined. Operating through four divisions, ASD supplies General Steels, Stainless Steel and Aluminium, Flat Products and Speciality Products. “I am delighted to be taking up this new role,” Mr Avaliani commented. “Backed by the global strength of Klöckner & Co, ASD is one of the best-known names in UK metals distribution with a leading reputation for quality, service and customer support. As the market begins to show some signs of recovery from the economic downturn, the company is well-placed for future growth.” Mr Avaliani replaces former ASD metal services CEO, Martin Joyce who has left the company to pursue other interests. |
